What is Ignite: CASPSLap?
IGNITE: CASPSLaP was an interactive pedagogy-focused session during the 2014 CASPSLaP conference, hosted by D. Eric Holt (University of South Carolina) and Gillian Lord (University of Florida). This session sought to highlight best practices in classroom pronunciation instruction, and featured eight brief micro-teaching lessons in a rotating “speed-dating” format (variably known as “speed geeking”, ‘lightning talks”, or PechaKucha). The lessons were designed to showcase specific pedagogical techniques or activities to teach a particular Spanish or Portuguese sound or process, or to help learners of these languages overcome a particular problem. These lessons are aimed at students enrolled in courses specifically treating pronunciation/phonetics or for learners in more general language courses.
